DURATION: This is a 2 day course that can be delivered either over 2 consecutive days or one day a week over 2 weeks.
VENUE: Locations nationwide and/or client specific.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Assess emergency situations and carry out appropriate action including informing emergency services.
- Carry out artificial ventilation and chest compressions.
- Place casualty into the recovery position and know to use this position.
- Clear obstructed airway.
- Control severe bleeding.
- Recognize and treat shock.
- Understand the requirements of a first aid kit and how to report accidents in the workplace.
- Recognize and treat major illnesses.
- Deal with burns and scolds.
- Recognize and treat fractures.
- Carry out the duties of a First Aider in a safe and approved manner, with no risk to self or third party

- Assessing the casualty and situation
- The Unconscious casualty
- Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Head injuries
- Choking and asthma
- Severe bleeding
- Shock
- The first aid kit and reporting procedures
- Heart attack, seizures and diabetes
- Burns and scolds
- Fractures
TARGET AUDIENCE: This course is designed for any existing First Aider, with a valid qualification who wishes to re-qualify in accordance with Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
PRE-COURSE PREPARATION: This course involves theoretical and practical elements, therefore delegates will need to dress appropriately for carrying out floor-based tasks such as CPR.
CERTIFICATION: Delegates who successfully complete this re-certification course, including the practical assessments will receive a life plus certificate valid for a further 2 years. It is widely recommended that first aiders undertake a 3-hour refresher to be conducted annually.
